We live in a "microwave society" where everything happens at light speed.
We need our food - "fast"!
We need our TV - "on demand"!
We need our Internet - "high-speed"!
We need our messages - "Instant"!
We need our workouts - "high-impact"!
We like to drive in the - "fast lane"!
As we zoom through life, there are times when we are faced with obstacles and challenges that cause us to pause and ask the question . . . . Where did God go? Why am I alone? How could God let this happen to me?
God never changes. And while our experience of living at the speed of light has increased through the years, He continues to maintain a steady, consistent, methodical - patience. From our perspective, however, if something does not happen immediately - it is gone - absent - lost. "Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, MSG). God never leaves. God never fails. He is always with us. So, how do you start to be intentional with you time and move from being a victim to a victor in your spiritual life. Start with these quick three steps to slow down . . .
1. Turn off the smartphone. This can be really hard. We live in a FOMO society (Fear Of Missing Out). Trust me...if you aren't the first to respond to the latest Instagram pic or Facebook post, you will live. Turn off the smartphone during your next family dinner and enjoy the time of talking and connecting and sharing how God is moving in each of your lives.
2. Turn off the TV and the computer. My wife and I have this covered from both ends. She loves her "favorite shows" on TV and I always seem to have a computer going. We can always justify putting our time here. But, God is waiting to spend time with you. He won't force Himself in...but once you turn off the tech and commit the time to Him, you'll realize just how much you've missed.
3. Devote times to reflect though prayer, meditation, Bible reading, and seeing the work of God's hand around you each and every day. Focus your thoughts on recognizing God's voice and His work in your life and the lives of others. Be intentional and make this time to spend with your Heavenly Father the most important part of the day.
While it may not seem like it, God never leaves us - but He will not force himself into a life that is already too full. Give Him the best of who you are as you RESET your spiritual balance and wellness.
